Are Sunnies Face Airblush Worth They Hype?

And Why Do I Feel Guilty Buying From This Brand.

Because of its very famous and gorgeous founders, Sunnies Face is the kind of brand that both have super fans that will fight tooth and nail to defend it, and haters that want to boycott the brand because the founders are connected to the family of the notorious dictator of our country, the Philippines. They are actually called “Marcos Deniers”. [NOTE: Just Google “Ferdinand Marcos” to understand this topic.] Other than that, some Filipinos are also upset that they often use foreign models for their campaigns. I know they do it to attract the US market, but is it really that hard to add Filipinas in it? Think about Fenty Beauty only using white models in their campaigns, that will infuriate a lot of people!

But setting aside biases, their products always get mixed reviews online. Personally, I didn’t like their Fluffmatte lipstick, I find them mediocre. I also didn’t bother buying their Glowboss highlighters after people in the beauty industry I respect said they’re not highlighting enough, they emphasize the pores, and the shades are either too pink to be a blush and too dark to be a contour stick. Though I noticed a lot of people like their Lifebrow Kit. It’s the only product from them so far where I find more good reviews than bad. Until the Sunnies Airblush was launch and the internet are divided again!

VERDICT
MY THOUGHTS
Sunnies Face Airblush is a good blush for beginners since it can be forgiving and easy to erase when you made an error. It's also a good blush for a "no makeup makeup look". Though, if you have dry skin, this product can highlight your dry patches. It also fades really fast.
PROS
Easy to use
Lightweight
Moisturizing
CONS
Not that pigmented
Too small
Fades fast

The Sunnies Face Airblush Review

According to their website, Airblush is a soft-focus sheer cheek tint with a silky matte finish. The ultra-fine pigments blend seamlessly onto your skin for a filtered flush. It comes in six buildable shades you can use on your cheeks, eyes, lips, nose—anywhere you want a little extra color.

Formula & Application

The Airblush has a really balmy formula. They actually reminded of my Barbie Lipstick Palette that comes with a Barbie doll way back in the ’90s. Just like my Barbie palette, I can use my fingers or a brush to apply Airblush on my lips and cheeks. And just like the Barbie palette again, the Sunnies Face Airblush doesn’t last long on my oily skin. It only lasts around 2 hours unlike my 3CE Take A Layer Multi Pot (which people accused Sunnies Face of knocking off), it lasts around 6 hours on my cheeks.

The Airblush has a cream to powder formula (though I never really feel the powder part) that is very sheer, but it is indeed buildable. Though don’t expect NARS kind of pigment, it’s like Glossier Cloud Paint but sheerer, it looks really natural if the shade matches your skin tone.

Shades like Peached, Biscuit, and Doll needs around 5 layers to really pop, while the shades Razz, Moon, and Disco are really pigmented.

And depends on the shade, it doesn’t really pop on the eyes and lips. I have the Peached shade, and no matter how many layers I put, it doesn’t show on my lips. I think only the shade Razz is the only one that can really pop on both cheeks and lips.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Overall, I find the Sunnies Face Airblush as a perfect blush for beginners since it can be forgiving and easy to erase when you made an error. It’s also a good blush for those who want a natural “no makeup makeup look” or always in a rush due to its sheerness it’s easy to put on. Though, if you have dry skin, this product can highlight your dry patches. The only thing I didn’t like is it only lasted two hours or less on me. And yes, I already have a perfectly good base with that. You also have to apply some of the Airblush shades up to 5 times each cheek to make the color really show. And so for a product that only 2.5 grams, it will not last long.

So if you want something more pigmented and lasts more than two hours, I highly recommend the 3CE Take A Layer Multi-Pot.

WHERE TO BUY?

You can buy the Sunnies Face Airblush in Zalora and Lazada for Php445 each which contains only 2.5g per pot.

So Why Do I Feel Guilty Buying Sunnies Face Products?

As mentioned above, the founders of this brand are connected to the family of our notorious former dictator, and the founders themselves have been called “Marcos Deniers”. As a Filipino who hates oppression, it makes me feel guilty buying their products. But then why I only focus on them? If I review my past purchases I see Chanel and I know from books I’ve read that Coco Chanel was a Nazi agent, Jeffree Star has a history of racism from his MySpace days, Kat Von D once claimed she’s an anti-vaxer, MAC tests on animals, I like glittery and shimmery products that have “Mica” which has shady sources that roots from child labor, I sometimes buy from H&M which is one of the largest fast fashion brands that contribute to the destruction of the planet and many more.

I feel like Ivanka Trump, a complicit. I feel guilty but sometimes, I honestly don’t know where to draw the line. But as mentioned in Project Vanity article about Ethical Purchasing:

“With the general unethical nature of brands today, the best way to be an ethical consumer is still to reduce the things that we buy. Understandably, there are some things we can’t forego. So what can we do then? There a lot of DIY tutorials on making your own beauty and personal care products. But a more impactful thing to do is to engage the brands. Choose the brand that is the ‘lesser evil’ but also engage its creator on how to be more responsible, and sustainable with their production model, and even their socio-political stance. Social media is an incredible tool for this. Even if it doesn’t improve the existing brand, other entrepreneurs will see the demand for ethical products. You can also join movements that advocate for ethical consumption in concrete ways; remember that there is power in numbers. The key to this is to not be defeated by the mentality that there is nothing we can’t do to change how things are.”
