Dolce & Gabbana is among the top lifestyle brands across the globe. From humble beginnings in the 1980s, D&G grew to embody the luxury and the glamor within the fashion industry. Despite all its success throughout the decades, D&G continues to reinvent and revive classic fashion simultaneously. Their collections tell a story — particularly the Alta Moda collection.
Annually, since 2012, D&G has hosted the Alta Moda event to showcase its latest haute couture collection. In July of 2023, they arrived in Puglia, Italy, to the ancient village of Alberobello.
Dolce & Gabbana Brings 500 Guests to Alberobello
Thousands of homes line the streets of Alberobello. Many of these homes are the famous trulli. Trulli are traditional limestone homes built featuring conical roofs made of stone. In Alberobello, some of these dwellings have stood since the 14th century. The five-day event began by ushering in A-list celebrities and 500 elite members of the Alta Moda, including Kim Kardashian, Christian Bale, Venus Williams, and Erling Haaland.
Local residents, celebrities, and models filled the streets. If not for the extravagant Dolce & Gabbana gowns and the models filtering down the runway, it didn’t look like the typical Alta Moda. The event was dedicated to the village and its people rather than to the silver, gold and crystal exuberance of 2022’s Alta Moda.
Puglia Residents React To Alta Moda
Planning for the Alta Moda began a year before the event. Shortly after Alta Moda 2022, Dolce & Gabbana began work on 2023’s show. The fashion house reached out to the people of Puglia to find craftspeople and locals to help create their most authentic show to date.
Residents quickly agreed to help, with many craftsmen and women aiding in crocheting the garments worn by the models. Others helped prepare food for all 500 guests or handmade baskets, clothing, children’s toys and other items to bring to the show. The streets were filled with people, vendors and local farm animals on the week of the show.
Models Display Another Successful Alta Moda Collection
The 2023 Alta Moda collection was inspired by authenticity and simplicity. Designers Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce wanted this to be the “realest” show they had ever done. While there is nothing minimal about D&G’s line, the gold and crystals were hardly visible. Instead, transparent lace and tulle were a cornerstone of the collection.
Feminine looks included hoop skirts, sensual silhouettes and a few designer jackets with masculine cuts. For those who have loved D&G for a long time, it was reminiscent of their original shows and the types of fashion that initially put them on the map.
Bringing Luxury and Authenticity Into Your Home
Dolce & Gabbana has served timeless and classic looks for decades. With the Alta Moda 2023, guests were brought back to a simpler time amongst a stunning backdrop only found in Southern Italy.
