L’Oreal UV Perfect SPF 50 Transparent Skin Review

Summer is officially here in the Philippines! Although it is highly recommended that we use sun protection every single day especially those who live in a tropical country like mine, let’s be honest, not everyone actually do that. But during summer, we remember that especially when people go on a trip. Since every summer I feature a new sunblock on this blog, here’s a new one from a popular drugstore makeup brand. But is it good as other budget sunblocks like Biore? Keep reading my L’Oreal UV Perfect SPF 50 Transparent Skin review.

PERFORMANCE

APPLICATION: Use every morning on clean face and neck. Remember to apply as a base before applying makeup.

SCENT: I don’t detect any scent.

PACKAGING: This L’Oreal UV Perfect SPF 50 Transparent Skin comes with a box which I find wasteful. It’s too big for its product, so many excess spaces inside for such a small plastic bottle. But I like that you can dispense the product on the bottom because the products easily slide down. No need to store it upside down in your vanity shelf.

FORMULA: It has a creamy texture but lightweight. And despite the white color, it does not really leave a white cast. It does not feel sticky, however, it feels oily especially when you have an oily skin like mine. For a list of its ingredients, check the CosDNA Analysis.

RESULT: This sunblock gives me a really REALLy dewy finish. Even when I applied mattifying powder above it, this sunblock felt like it teamed up with the oil of my skin and made me look greasy in an hour under the tropical sun. Another thing I noticed is that, it feels kinda itchy for me especially in areas where I have acne. So I eventually stopped using it. It’s hard to get rid of acne, I don’t want another breakout!

But of course, I’m still curious what was probably causing it so I checked its ingredients and learned it contains Butylphenyl Methylpropional and Geraniol which both scored 7, the highest rating in CosDNA which means it’s definitely not good for long-term use. And many of this sun block’s ingredients scored 3-6 as well. In short, this is not for sensitive skin.

VERDICT

PROS: It’s lightweight, does not leave a white cast, and has the right amount of SPF for everyday use in a tropical country.

CONS: It’s too dewy for oily skin, and not good for those with sensitive skin. I end up with an itchy skin.
