AvaCare Medical’s Great Efforts for Hurricane Florence Relief

For people living on the shores around the world, especially on the East Coast of the United States, the most dreaded words are those of a potentially devastating hurricane warning.

Hurricanes are unfortunately one of the most common natural disasters, with an average of 8 hurricanes every 5 years in the U.S alone, with 3-4 of them being majorly destructive.

Hurricanes cost citizens and governments huge sums of money in damage repair. The havoc these storms cause can bring financial crisis on people and the country as a whole. A great number of fatalities are also seen.

In the face of such tragedies, it is incumbent upon anyone who has the ability to help disaster victims in their time of need. We should collectively work together to provide relief to those who require it because they have lost so much, and we should always put our best foot forward in kindness.

Hurricane Florence, 2018

Another sad event that unfolded in the year 2018 was when North and South Carolinas were gravely affected by the Hurricane Florence.

The hurricane resulted in over 57 fatalities, and caused a property and economic damage of more than $24 billion. It was labeled as a Category 4 hurricane on the SSHWS scale.

The storm started to form on the last day of August 2018 as a minor one, but grew rapidly on the 4th and 5th of September, leaving massive wreckage in its wake, only coming to a complete end on the 19th of September.

Florence also affected other states on a smaller scale. These states include Virginia, Florida Maryland, and Georgia. Tennessee and Washington were also under the influence of the storm but thankfully experienced no noticeable damage.

The Aftermath:

  1. The storm caused vastly spread flooding along the coastal end of North Carolina and flooded many residential and commercial areas in South Carolina.
  2. Many people were not allowed to return back home to due to changes of flooding by the overflowing rivers.
  3. A lot of individuals lost their homes in the cyclone and had to live in Red Cross shelters, or receive rental assistance from FEMA and stay in hotels and rented properties.
  4. People didn’t receive power in their homes for a significant period of time and 40,000 workers from around the States and Canada worked to restore power and stability.
  5. The roads were blocked by parked, abandoned or crashed cars. Fallen trees and dead animals also kept drivers off the roads.
  6. Many claims linked to the cyclone needed to be reviewed to ensure they were actually caused by the vicious storms, taking a great deal of energy, time and money.
  7. Millions of gallons of fresh water were wasted when untreated sewer water became mixed with it.
  8. The floods also affected livestock and reportedly, 3.4 million poultry animals died due to the weather. The crops grown at these farms were also destroyed.

As you can see, the damage caused by such hurricanes is huge, and recovery efforts are enormous. For those of us who are fortunately not affected by natural disasters have a moral responsibility to do whatever they can to help their fellow countrymen like urgent care Pasadena pick up the pieces and begin returning to normal life.

AvaCare Medical’s Joint Efforts with FODAC for Hurricane Florence Relief

In the spirit of this loving-kindness, AvaCare Medical partnered with FODAC (Friends Of Disabled Adults & Children) to support the victims of the devastation in the Carolinas and elsewhere.

But before we discuss the great deal of kindness and concern the two have shown towards the relief, let’s learn a bit about them.

AvaCare Medical and Its Belief in Kindness

AvaCare Medical is an e-Commerce business, offering thousands of medical supplies to patients and caregivers across the US. Their product offerings include incontinence supplies, respiratory aids, orthopedic beds, wheelchairs, wound care products, bathroom aids and so much more.

But their products are not what makes them stand out; rather, it’s their belief in kindness. In fact, that is their official motto: Because we Care.

Because they care, AvaCare Medical is constantly developing new ways to support those in need. From providing scholarships to aspiring medical students, to offering discounted services to war veterans, AvaCare Medical consistently reiterates their care and concern to all of their customers.

That is why the company is what it is today, what it stands for, and how it influences others. AvaCare Medical is a great example of humanitarians in the modern business world.

FODAC and Hurricane Florence Relief

FODAC or Friends Of Disabled Adults & Children is an organization with a simple yet kind aim, to provide durable and quality medical equipments like wheelchairs to the disabled and their families, without any cost.

And to achieve this goal, they have partnered with many over the course of years. They partnered with GEMA in 2013 for state-wide distribution of Durable Medical Equipment. FODAC also worked with ARC for handing out DME.

Shortly before the advent of Hurricane Florence, AvaCare Medical reached out to FODAC in hopes of working with them on future relief efforts. When Florence reared its ugly face, they immediately partnered up in an important shared mission: to prepare and deliver shipment of DME to disaster-struck areas and help those in need! Certainly a step to be applauded!

The Relief Efforts

Words from the CEO:

AvaCare Medical’s CEO, Steven Zeldes, has proudly said on his collaboration with FODAC for Florence relief;

With the onset of Hurricane Florence, we understood the need for DME and other products to be sent to emergency shelters, and we were thankful to have the opportunity to give back to our consumers by working with FODAC to promote their cause and partially fund their efforts.

AvaCare Medical’s funding towards the Relief

As you have already read above about FODAC’s coordination with GEMA and ARC, and FODAC distributing DME and many other medical supplies for the relief, AvaCare Medical grew busy raising funds to support the relief effort.

AvaCare Medical did a wide-scale campaign, encouraging its followers and customers to donate as generously as they can, and to volunteer in the affected areas.

Not only this, but from 20th September (Thursday) to 24th September (Monday), any order placed on AvaCare Medical’s website could directly benefit victims with at least $1 from every order being donated to this charitable cause, raising a lot of money to urgently help those in need of medical supplies and assistance!

AvaCare thus worked as partners, hand in hand, with FODAC and is proud and grateful to have found a way to remotely support the desperate relief efforts.

What others can learn from AvaCare Medical

Even though a donation may sound like a small step, it can make a grand change. That is why businesses with the ability to offer food, shelter, clothes or any other important supplies to the homeless, sick and injured after such terrible disasters should show their support by contributing in any way they can.

Hurricane Florence came as a strong force, but it could not override the stronger bond which we humans have; compassion. In this and other areas of assisting the less fortunate, AvaCare Medical sets an example for others to follow; great relief starts with a simple gesture. Businesses should learn to help and encourage others to help, whether they are helping their direct consumer base or are reaching out beyond that to show that they care.
