Lab Exam

Preparing for the Cisco Certified Design Expert Lab Exam

It can be difficult and intimidating to prepare for the CCIE lab exam, especially for first-time test takers. A key component of preparation, aside from the apparent study for your tests, is being aware of what to anticipate. In some of the earlier #CertsandLabs blogs, we discussed what happens in the lab, common misconceptions about taking the lab exam, and changes we’ve made to the lab to make it more user-friendly for test takers. We’re going to concentrate on a logical flow of expectations for your lab testing experience in this blog, including knowing the necessary policies, study advice, and test-day expectations.

Recognize the Law:

Knowing Cisco’s policies will help you avoid forfeiting your exam in any way and will make it clear what is expected of you when you get to the lab.

  1. Rights and obligations of candidates – Know your NDA and all of Cisco’s Code of Conduct guidelines.
  2. Candidates for the CCIE Lab may be familiar with the following policies:
  1. No Unauthorized Materials – While taking the exam, refrain from bringing anything into or out of the exam room, including outside reference materials. The testing area is off-limits to the storage of personal items such as wallets, purses, and cell phones. Everything you require for the exam will be with you.
  2. During the exam, while taking the exam, or after the exam is finished, DO NOT consult or confer with anybody regarding the exam. You may only talk about your exam during a lab exam with the lab proctor.
  1. Payment deadline – At least 90 days prior to the lab exam date, full payment must be paid. Your exam will be automatically removed from the schedule if payment is not received by the deadline, and Cisco will not be held responsible.
  2. Visa criteria must be met if the lab you choose is outside of your native country in order for you to take the exam there. Before scheduling your lab exam, it is highly advised that you learn about the necessary visas, understand them, and apply for any necessary visas at least 10 to 12 weeks beforehand.
  3. Cancellation Policy: You must enter into the lab scheduling tool and drop your current lab in order to reschedule or cancel your exam. Then you can reschedule for a more convenient time and place. If payment is made on the day the exam is scheduled, you may schedule an exam at a date that is fewer than 90 days away. You can get a full refund by contacting Certifications Online Support if you need to cancel an exam before the cancellation date (91 days before the lab date) and you paid with a wire transfer that has already cleared.

Planning Ahead:

Both novice and seasoned candidates typically feel anxious before entering the lab. Effective exam preparation can help prevent unneeded delays and anxiety.

  • Exams may begin at 7:00 a.m. local time, and those who arrive late will not be given extra time. Although it’s not permitted to bring luggage into the testing area, Cisco can hold it if there is room. Think about leaving your luggage with the concierge if you check out before your exam.
  • No need to wear business attire. The exam may last up to eight hours, so you should feel comfortable the entire time.
  • Although it may seem obvious, you should start your morning with a typical breakfast routine. Many students underestimate the exam’s difficulty, and skipping meals the night before is a needless distraction. Once more, the exam may run up to eight hours, or a whole workday. So consider having your usual breakfast before leaving for work. You won’t be able to take a leisurely break to go out to eat until the group has a scheduled lunch break. In order to avoid arriving at the exam with an upset stomach, eat well before the exam while being careful not to stray too far from your normal routine.
  • We need two different IDs. Both a driver’s licence and a passport are acceptable forms of identification, but they must both bear your signature and be government-issued documents with a picture.

Recognize the lab setting:

When you arrive, you will receive a brief introduction to the exam’s requirements, a rundown of the lab supplies, and an explanation of the proctor’s duties. You will be served lunch. The time given for your exam does not include the briefing or lunch break. The clock will not stop during these intervals, but you may take as many additional breaks as you need.

There is help available from your proctor. They can assist in providing clarification on exam-related issues as well as the purpose of a question. It is expected that applicants will arrive with a working knowledge and comprehension of the abilities needed to pass the test. We advise frequently storing your configurations as a best practise.
