How to Express Your Style Using Fabrics

There are so many different ways that you can express your style, which can include changing your physical appearance, your belongings, or even your home. Being able to express your style is great for self-development, as it often changes to reflect different ages and stages in your life. Changing up your style every few years is completely normal, but keeping the same style for a number of years is also very normal.

The point is, your style is completely and utterly controlled by you. One great way of expressing your style is through the fabrics you choose to use, with different patterns and colors often giving a bit of a hint about you as a person. Here are some ways you can express your style through the use of fabrics.

Experiment with Different Colors and Boldness

Firstly, using different colors of fabric is a great starting point to expressing your style. Typically, people who may be more extroverted often go for fabrics which are bolder and more ‘out there’, which applies to the fabrics used in their clothing, their accessories and their home. This may be because they want to make a statement or stand out from the crowd, while other people may prefer more monochrome fabrics in order to keep everything looking matching and neat.

As well as colors, patterns also say a lot about your style. Going for something quirky indicates fun and experimental style and choosing something more classic may portray that you prefer to be in control. Fabrics are often used by different cultures to express their style, like a falsa or Mexican blanket, which comes in brightly colored stripes and reflects the bright color schemes often seen in Mexico.

Use Interesting Fabrics in Various Contexts

If you want to start being more experimental with different fabrics in order to indicate a shift in your style or even to show a style you have had for a while but haven’t really expressed, you can do this in a number of ways. Some people feel too shy to wear bright or patterned fabrics, but this doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate them. For example, you could invest in some cushions or some curtains which use a particular fabric and choose to decorate your house this way rather than through your dress sense. Likewise, you could try incorporating different fabrics through the use of accessories.

Try Different Styles for Different Times of Year

Different times of the year often call to different fabrics, partially due to style and partially due to practicality. For example, the warmer months are often associated with brighter colors but thinner materials, whereas the colder months may lead us to wear thicker fabrics with more neutral colors. There is no rule that says you have to stick to this, but if you are wearing brightly colored fabrics for the first time, you may feel less self-conscious doing this if you feel everybody surrounding you is doing it too.

Equally, you could decorate your house differently at different times of year by using various fabrics. Being colder in winter means we often feel the need for thick blankets, but the warmth of summer means that you don’t have to prioritize staying warm so much: rather, you can have a focus on style.

Once you immerse yourself into the world of fabrics, you will feel spoilt for choice and you will never get bored of expressing or changing up your style. The endless options out there mean that you can really be experimental, so rather than following the crowd, pick what makes you feel happy and confident and own it.
