Casino Attire Tips

Though you may not be required to dress up while playing in GClub, you need to do some prepping if you plan to visit an actual casino. Your attire may help you gain confidence in playing various casino games. It speaks volumes about you and how other casino players perceive you.

Dressing up also shows that you give honor to the specific dress code of a casino. It also shows your respect for other gamblers who have prepared and dressed appropriately for the night. While not all gambling venues have dress codes, most casinos now oblige their guests to dress in a specific way to keep a particular atmosphere or ambiance.

In this article, we’ll help you identify the proper clothing to wear in casinos so you can have a beautifully extravagant night. We also added a section for garments you may need to avoid.

Types of Attire

White Tie – This is an extremely formal attire for special events. It involves tuxedos and glitzy gowns. This attire may not be prevalent today in most casinos, except during themed celebrations our tournaments.

Black Tie – The lesser formal version of a white tie. Men can also wear tuxedos in black tie events, but tails are ideal for white tie gatherings. A black tie is commonly less regulated for women. They can also wear full-length gowns, but with fewer accessories.

Semiformal  Semiformal is refined dressing but more laid-back. Women can wear cocktail dresses while men can wear wool or cashmere coats. Note that it’s better to overdress than to underdress when you’re in a semiformal gathering. Don’t ever wear flip-flops.

Business Casual

This may be the most common dress code. It appears stately while looking relaxed at the same time. For this casino attire, women can wear skirts/slacks and button-down blouses. Meanwhile, men can wear button-down shirts, khakis, and smart casual shoes.

Tips for Men and Women

Only Dress Casually When Allowed

Always check the website of the casino to learn if they allow casual clothing inside the establishment. Some casinos enable any kind of dressing so long as you have the cash to gamble with.

Note that some sections of the casino require formal attire. These areas are for VIPs only, which include specific bars, restaurants, and poker rooms.

If a VIP friend invited you for a casino night, it would only make sense to wear something quite more beautiful than ordinary, day-to-day casual clothes.

Always Dress for Comfort

You won’t have the best time in a casino if you’re not comfortable. Even if the casino requires guests to wear formal clothing, you should find something completely comfy to wear. Remember: you didn’t come to the casino for a fashion show. You came to play, strategize, and win the games.

Comfort doesn’t necessarily mean “casual.” Men can wear a coat with enough pockets in case they need to bring props like casino strategy guides, scratchpads, or pens. Women can choose to wear their most comfortable dresses and heels. They can also carry a purse to keep all their essentials.

Only “Fancy Up” after 6 PM

You don’t want to sweat while wearing a coat and tie in the afternoon. Opt to “dress up” after 6 PM. It’s tradition: When the sun sets, the fashion parade commences.

What Not to Wear in Casinos

If possible, avoid wearing the following in all casinos:

  • Flip flops
  • Sneakers
  • Dirty clothing
  • Worn-out dresses
  • Clothing with offensive slogans or images
