Travel Capsule Wardrobe Dos and Don’ts

Is your sense of fashion getting the better of you when packing for a trip? You just want to look nice but you don’t want to cart heavy luggage around on your vacation to and from various hotels.

Make a capsule wardrobe checklist and you’ll be on your way to creating the perfect travel capsule wardrobe.

Start With Bottoms

If you stick with a few neutral bottoms, you can match them with a variety of tops to expand your outfit choices.

Choose one denim item, one black and one khaki or other neutral-colored items.

For example, start with a pair of jeans, a pair of black pants and a khaki skirt or shorts depending on the climate or time of year.

Choose a Variety of Tops

Pack a couple of basic t-shirts, one or two blouses depending on your activities, sweaters or button-down shirts.

Match a couple of tops to each bottom, if possible two. Then rotate the bottoms with the various tops to make a few different outfits.

Outerwear

Pack a rain jacket and a jean jacket for versatility. It can be dressed up or dressed down.

The Necessities

Pack enough underwear for the length of the trip unless you’ll have access to laundry service.

Pack one pair of walking shoes and a dressier pair for special outings. If you’re going on a beach vacation, bring flip flops. For winter vacations, boots will be one of your shoe options.

Don’t forget something to wear to bed and 2-3 bras.

Bring a few pieces of neutral jewelry like something gold or silver that will go with all of your outfits.
