How to Find the Best Foundation for Mature Skin

Growing older doesn’t necessarily mean you should stop looking after yourself. On the contrary, it is the perfect time to pay more attention to your skin and appearance in order to look healthy. Mature modelling requires the model to take care of her skin as well. Use these tips to discover what’s best for you!

After a certain age, you may not want to experiment with a bold lipstick or eyeshadow colors but this doesn’t mean that you should ignore the needs of your skin or start to gain unnecessary weight. Look for products that are suitable for your skin type and age, and even invest in some exercise equipment for seniors to stay in shape and lose a few pounds.

A thin layer of foundation will not only make you look fresh and healthy the entire day but will also protect your skin from the harmful effects of sun rays and free radicals, preventing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots.

And, if you’re in the market for a new foundation but you’re not sure which one would best suit the needs of your mature skin, here are some features you should consider.

Consistency

Nowadays, foundations come in a lot of formulas to meet the expectations of all people, regardless of their age, skin type, imperfections or color. The most common formulas you’ll come across in a beauty shop include liquid foundation, cream, mineral, compact or powder foundation.

Out of all types, the liquid foundation remains the most popular version as it allows you to build coverage and is easier to apply. Based on your skin needs, you can choose an oil-free foundation, waterproof or a 24-hour lasting one. By applying multiple layers you can reach the coverage of a compact or stick foundation.

Liquid foundation is the best option if you have mature skin as there are plenty of formulas infused with vitamins and hydrating ingredients that will nourish your skin and prevent it from drying.

Cream foundation is a handy option, ideal for touch-ups during the day. They are lightweight and don’t provide too much coverage, making you look natural and fresh. Newer versions allow you to even achieve a fully perfect matte finish, suitable for people with combination and oily complexions.

Mineral foundation has increased in popularity in the past years because it is allegedly made using 100% natural and organic ingredients that won’t clog the pores and won’t cause breakouts or blackheads. It has a building coverage and offers a natural finish.

Powder or compact foundation absorbs oils and sebum, providing a matte finish throughout the day. It evens out the skin tone and mainly offers medium to full coverage, based on the brand, and your preferences. We don’t recommend powder foundation to seniors as it tends to dry out the skin, making your wrinkles and fine lines more visible.

Ingredients

After a certain age, your skin might become more sensitive and be prone to allergic reactions due to certain ingredients from your cosmetic products.

We suggest opting for lightweight formulas, oil-free, and paraben-free, that won’t clog the pores or cause allergies. The fewer ingredients your foundation has, the better for your skin.

Since most seniors deal with dry skin, it might be a good idea to look for a BB or CC cream instead of a thicker foundation. BB and CC creams provide sheer, barely-there coverage but are infused with vitamins, minerals, and hydrating elements that will keep your skin smooth and glowing throughout the day.

There is also the option of anti-aging foundations that promise to reduce the appearance of saggy skin, fine lines, pores, and wrinkles.

Color

You might want to opt for a product that has plenty of shades to choose from, based on your undertone.

The best way to find your perfect color is to try three samples of colors on your jawline, preferably while standing in natural lighting. If you can’t do this, you can test the color of the foundation on your wrist but we don’t guarantee it will be a 100% match.  If you find the perfect coverage, consistency, and combination of ingredients in a product but can’t seem to be lucky on the shade, you can always combine two or more colors until you reach the perfect one for your skin tone.
