Why Kodak Charmera Feels Like the Labubu of Cameras & Where You Can Buy Them?

There’s something oddly satisfying about tiny gadgets that don’t take themselves too seriously, right? That’s exactly the sweet spot the Kodak Charmera lands in, a digital keychain camera that looks like it time-traveled straight out of the late ’80s. But instead of being a disposable novelty unlike the old Kodak Fling, this little thing actually works. And here’s the kicker: it comes in blind boxes. Yes, just like Labubu or any other Pop Mart collectibles that are so popular right now where you don’t know which style you’re getting until you opened. And they have a “secret” too. For millennials chasing nostalgia or Gen Z collectors chasing dopamine hits, it’s basically bait.

But let’s be real. A camera this tiny and this cute can’t possibly compete with your iPhone’s 48MP setup. So the question is—why would you want one? That’s what we’re unpacking today.

If you’re curious to see the Kodak Charmera in action, I filmed a quick unboxing and sample shots over on my social media accounts. It’s a short but fun look at what you actually get inside the blind box and how tiny this retro keychain camera really is.

What Exactly Is the Kodak Charmera?

The Kodak Charmera is a miniature digital camera keychain that’s been making waves among collectors, film camera fans, and anyone with a soft spot for retro aesthetics. Created as a playful nod to Kodak’s classic “Fling” disposable camera from 1987, this new version shrinks the concept down to toy-sized proportions.

Instead of film, the Charmera uses a 1.6MP CMOS sensor, capable of snapping photos at 1440 × 1080 resolution and recording video at 30fps. You won’t be winning photo contests with it, but that’s not the point. The charm (pun intended) lies in the lo-fi output—grainy, imperfect, and very un-smartphone. Think of it as a digital toy camera for the modern age.

Features That Make It Fun

Here’s where the Charmera stands out, even if it’s not going to replace your DSLR:

  • Blind Box Excitement – There are seven regular designs plus one “secret” edition. You never know which you’ll pull, and that’s half the fun.
  • Pocket-Friendly – Weighing about 30 grams, it’s small enough to hang from your keys or toss in a bag without thinking twice.
  • Built-In Filters & Frames – Want a date stamp on your pics? A border that screams 2002 webcam vibes? Done.
  • Rechargeable with USB-C – No weird cables here. It charges like your phone.
  • Expandable Storage – Pop in a microSD card, and you’re good to go. I use a 32GB, it’s more than enough.

Basically, the Kodak Charmera doesn’t try to be the next big thing in photography, it leans hard into being fun, collectible, and nostalgic.

Who Is the Kodak Charmera For?

If you’re a millennial who grew up on disposable cameras at birthday parties, this will hit you right in the nostalgia. And if you’re Gen Z, it’s another quirky way to stand out from the endless stream of hyper-polished smartphone pics.

It’s also a match made in heaven for people who collect blind-box toys. Imagine opening your Labubu or Sonny Angel, and alongside it, you get a tiny working Kodak camera. That’s not just merch, it’s conversation starter energy.

But don’t expect pro results. Photos are soft, colors can shift, and the plastic lens adds a dreamy blur. If that bugs you, this isn’t your gadget. But if you love the imperfect aesthetic, it’s going to feel like a digital Lomo camera that happens to fit on your keychain.

Where to Buy the Kodak Charmera?

If you’re already sold on the idea (or at least curious), you’re probably wondering where to buy the Kodak Charmera. The good news? It’s not just an overseas novelty, you can actually get your hands on it here in the Philippines.

International Options

  • Kodak Retopro Website – This is Kodak’s official global website and they just closed their 3rd preorder. They said they will restock on December 2025. This is your best bet if you want to be among the first to secure one.
  • Amazon – The official page of Kodak in Amazon now listed the Charmera for pre-order.
  • B&H Photo Video – Also stocks the Kodak Charmera in blind-box format with global shipping.
  • Freestyle Photo – The Kodak Charmera is currently open for preorder in their website and they also have global shipping. PSA: They don’t allow PO box and forwarders. If detected, they will cancel your order. Heard a few terrible reviews on how long they shipping their orders. Proceed with caution.
