Laneige Neo Cushion Mewy Review: A Semi-Matte Glow That Doesn’t Slide Off My Face

laneige neo cushion mewy review

As someone with combo skin that likes to misbehave (oily T-zone, dry patches when it feels like it), I’m always skeptical about base products that promise to do it all. Most of the time, a matte foundation leaves me looking flat and flaky, while a glow cushion turns me into a dewy mess before lunch. So when I heard about the Laneige Neo Cushion Mewy, a product that combines the best of both worlds, you bet I had to try it. And spoiler alert: it might just be my new go-to.

What Exactly Is “Laneige Neo Cushion Mewy”?

Think of “mewy” as the lovechild of matte and dewy. Laneige basically took their Glow and Matte cushions, did a bit of matchmaking, and gave us a baby that’s smooth, moist, and balanced. It’s not drying like your typical matte cushion, and it feels kinda like skincare on your face.

Application Experience: Like Skincare, But Better

When I first dipped into the Neo Cushion Mewy, I was surprised by how moist it felt. It spread on my skin like a lightweight moisturizer, almost like I was applying skincare instead of makeup. And that makes sense because get this: it contains peptide, ceramide, squalane, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and SPF 42 PA++. It’s loaded with hydrating and barrier-repairing ingredients.

Normally, this is the part where I’d tell you the too much skincare in a makeup product makes it slide off my face after a couple of hours, but it didn’t. In fact, it lasted the whole day on me. And I have oily skin, especially around my nose and chin. No clumping, no caking, and it didn’t settle into the fine lines around my eyes either.

Coverage and Finish

Coverage-wise, it sits right in the middle between the Neo Cushion Matte and Neo Cushion Glow. It’s medium, buildable, and skin-like. One layer blurred my redness and uneven tone, while two layers gave me near-flawless skin without looking like I was wearing a mask. It covered my dark spots and didn’t emphasize my pores, which is usually where things go south for me.

Shade Range: Limited But Manageable

Now, let’s talk shades. The Laneige Neo Cushion Mewy comes in seven shades: 13C, 17W, 17N, 21C, 21W, 23N, and 25C. Not the most inclusive range, unfortunately. And heads up—it oxidizes more compared to the original Matte and Glow versions. So if you’re in between shades, you might want to go a step lighter.

Does It Play Well With Others?

Yes, it does. I tried it with my usual sunscreen (chemical and lightweight), and it didn’t pill or separate. It layered beautifully with blush and highlighter too. I didn’t even have to set it with powder—and that’s saying a lot, considering I almost always do. But I can’t say the same for the truly oily skin types.

Laneige x BTS Jin: The K-pop Cherry on Top

If you’re a K-pop fan specifically BTS like me, you probably already know that BTS’ Jin is the current ambassador of Laneige and the face of this product. And for a limited time, Laneige is including a Jin acrylic set that can double as a keychain or bag charm. Do you need it? No. Do you want it? Absolutely.

Final Thoughts: Worth It?

If you have dry skin, this might not be hydrating enough for you. But if you’re like me, combo skin that leans oily, this cushion hits that sweet spot. It has shine without looking flat, feels like skincare, and actually stays put without clumping your pores and undereye lines.

It also doesn’t have that tight, dry feeling some matte cushions give. I wore it for hours under Manila’s humid weather and it didn’t betray me. Honestly, the only downside is the limited shade range. But if you find your match, it’s chef’s kiss.
