Japan is an absolute wonderland for beauty lovers. From high-tech skincare to cult-favorite makeup, it’s easy to get swept up in the hype and leave with a suitcase full of goodies. Eight months ago, I did just that (after I watched the SEVENTEEN concert in Kanagawa). However, as any beauty enthusiast knows, products can behave very differently depending on climate and lifestyle. Some of my purchases became holy grails, while others? Let’s just say they’re collecting dust. Here’s my honest take on the Japanese beauty products I brought home.
Haircare Hits and Misses
Fino Hair Mask – 3/5
When I first tried this in Japan, I was obsessed. My hair felt silky smooth like I just walked out of a salon. But fast forward to using it in the Philippines, it feels greasy! Maybe it’s the humidity, but my hair felt weighed down. On the bright side, it does smell amazing. I have low-porosity hair, just in case you’re curious.
You can buy this on Amazon and Lazada Philippines.
&honey Deep Moist Hair Oil – 4.5/5
This one? Chef’s kiss. It smells divine, and the results? Instant gloss and smoothness. Just a tiny amount tames frizz, making my hair look effortlessly polished. If you struggle with dryness, this is a must-try.
You can buy this on Amazon and &honey Japan Official Lazada Page.
&honey Melty Matomake Stick – 5/5
Move over, Matomage! This version smells better and holds my bangs in place without making them crunchy. A total game-changer for flyaways.
You can buy this in Shopee Philippines.
Skincare and Pain Relief
Roihi-Tsuboko Pain Relief Patches – 5/5
These are magic. Just follow the application instructions on the box, and they work. No gimmicks, just effective relief for sore muscles. Worth stocking up on!
You can buy this on Amazon and Shopee Philippines.
Sante Medical 12 Eye Drops – 4/5
If you stare at screens all day like I do, this is a lifesaver. It soothes dry, tired eyes and even helps with itchiness. Instant refresh!

Sante Beauteye Drops – 2.5/5
I bought this because I saw so many Japanese women using it at a Seventeen concert. It has UV protection, which is great, but honestly? I prefer the Medical 12. Not a must-have for me.

Makeup Hits and Misses
Tirtir Mask Fit Red Cushion – 2/5
Bought this because of the hype. At first, I liked it. I used it while I was touring around Tokyo. But once I got back home in the tropical Philippines? It started pilling on my skin. Also, TikTok lied—this is not the flawless, skin-like cushion it claims to be. Thank goodness I only bought the mini version.

Tirtir Mask Fit Peach All Cover Cushion – 2/5
This one had so much potential. It’s matte with high coverage, but it’s also hard to blend. The finish looked a bit heavy on my skin, which is a no-go for me. And again, I am glad I bought the mini version of it too.

Tirtir Mask Fit Crystal Mesh Cushion – 4/5
Now this one I actually liked! Light to medium coverage with a skin-like, glowy finish. I am glad I got the full size. The only downside? Limited shades and this is a limited edition too.
The crystal packing is a limited edition, but you can buy the silver version on regular packaging on Amazon and TirTir’s Official Shopee Page.
Paul & Joe Anti-UV Lipstick – 2/5
Honestly, this is all about aesthetics. The case is adorable (and sold separately, of course), but the product itself? Meh. It’s expensive for a lip balm that isn’t even hydrating.
You can buy a refill only from this Japanese reseller on Shopee Philippines.
CipiCipi Dewy Lip Tint – 3.5/5
Another TikTok-hyped product. It’s glossy without being sticky, and it leaves a nice tint. But the shade range is limited, and let’s be real—there are similar, if not better, options out there.

Unexpected Favorite
Okuchi Mouthwash – 5/5
Who knew I’d be raving about mouthwash? The mint is the classic pick, but the cherry and peach flavors? Obsessed. They freshen my breath without the painful sting of alcohol-based ones.

Shopping Tip: Where to Buy for Less
If you’re shopping for Japanese beauty products, avoid tourist traps like Don Quijote. Drugstores are cheaper, and even department stores often have better prices than Cosme. A little price-checking goes a long way!
Final Thoughts
Overall, my Japan beauty haul was a mix of hits and misses. Some products didn’t live up to the hype, while others became staples. If I could only repurchase a few, I’d go for the &honey Hair Oil, the Melty Matomake Stick, and the Okuchi Mouthwash. Have you tried any of these? Let’s chat in the comments!
