Red vs Blue Light Therapy: What They Are and Which One Is for You?

We are all aware of the benefits of sun rays for the skin and body—indeed, it encourages the formation of vitamin D, which is crucial for the health of bones and muscles—but we are also aware of the risks associated with exposure to UV radiation. That is why we are looking for different ways to protect our skin from harmful radiation.

The development of medicine, however, has made it possible in recent years to expand research into the use of light in the medical area, identifying certain practical rays of action to treat specific skin conditions.

In reality, light is energy that travels through photons until it enters our body, where it influences cellular activity and initiates certain reactions.

For instance, certain light rays can either restrict or accelerate the growth of some cells and bacteria, depending on how they are used.

Red Light: Pros and Cons

The red light treatment uses rays that have a color spectrum from yellow to red and that stimulate cell regeneration for both a preventative and therapeutic effect.

Red light therapy, like the Joovv Red Light Therapy, for example,  is used to speed up healing and recovery, decreasing inflammation and boosting cell function.

When paired with specific chemicals, red light treatment can be effective for treating epithelioma and removing actinic keratoses from the skin. It is very effective in treating numerous skin conditions without any notable negative effects.

In this final instance, the red light penetrates deeply and activates a specific acid called “5-ALA.”

Blue Light: Pros and Cons

In the case of acne, blue light therapy is a fantastic treatment and is recommended by many skincare experts.

Blue light in particular is very effective at reducing the growth of bacteria that can cause acne and related skin problems, such as excessive sebum production and dirt.

However, because acne can have numerous connected causes, blue light therapy can only guarantee successful results after a dermatologist has made a diagnosis and looked into the causes of acne and the best treatments.

Pharmaceutical therapy and particular dermo-cosmetics are frequently used in combination with blue light therapy. It is important to first determine the cause of acne to make sure you use the right product to treat it.

UV Radiation: A Problem or a Solution?

UV rays can be used to cure skin conditions like psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis if they are controlled and harnessed by modern technology.

It is no accident that patients with these illnesses notice a remission of their symptoms during the summer when the sun is at its strongest.

The face and body can be treated with sessions that make use of this narrow band UV radiation, which lasts between 30 seconds and three minutes. It has been very effective in treating different conditions and reducing redness, scarring, and many other problems.

Security and Potential Negative Effects

Light therapy is thought to be a safe kind of skin treatment because, as we’ve already shown, it doesn’t involve harmful radiation.

It is non-invasive, carries very little danger, and won’t result in long-term skin damage.

For instance, care should be exercised, though, if you are taking medications that make you more sensitive to light or if you have a skin rash on your face.

When the treatment is stopped, rare side effects such as redness, rash, and inflammation disappear.

When Do the Effects of LED Therapy Become Apparent?

After around 10 applications, the first skin changes could be noticeable.

Light therapy should be used frequently and repeatedly because cells eventually regenerate on their own.

The skin may subsequently start to lose collagen as we get older, which may lead to the emergence of new acne.

The capability of these treatments to be used daily at home is a major benefit.

It is also important to note that blue and red light therapy is perfectly safe and, of course, does not contain the harmful rays that damage the skin. So, if you are looking for a safe treatment for your skin to use regularly, this is the one for you. It is said that it is difficult, or perhaps even impossible, to achieve clear skin and reduce the signs of aging, but with red or blue light therapy, you now have an easy and safe way to achieve your skincare goals.
