The Mediterranean is a place that has been occupied for nearly as long as history can recall, and Greece is one of the most well-known countries in all of the area. It is home to some of the most popular tourist attractions known such as Athens, the Acropolis, and even Santorini.

The Greek people have a rich culture, and their cuisine will excite your taste buds with an authentic experience unlike any other. There are so many adventures waiting for you when you decide to visit this beautiful county. Here are some of the most popular attractions that Greece has to offer.

Castle of Myrina

Many people think of Greece as nothing more than a vacation destination, but the country is home to many ancient ruins and castles. One such castle is the Castle of Myrina, located on the island of Lemnos which, although less touristy, is a popular ferry day trip destination. Myrina is a small town in the north-central part of the island. The Castle of Myrina was built on a strategic location by the Genoese to protect their interests on the island. It was built in the 6th century BC by the Athenians, and it served as an important strategic outpost during the Byzantine period. It changed hands many times over the centuries, with the Venetians, Turks, and French all occupying it at some point. Today, it is open to visitors and offers great views over the town and harbor below.

Rhodes Town

Even if you are someone who doesn’t like being around the hustle and bustle of a busy life or wants to stay away from busy tourist attractions when in Greece, there are some tourist attractions that you just can miss.

The very first tourist attraction on our list is Rhodes Town. While in Rhodes Town, there will be more than one singular tourist attraction as the town itself is considered to be an incredibly popular tourist destination.

This island is located close to Turkey and is one of the larger Greek islands. With that said, you can travel around Rhodes Town on foot without the worry of cars, because there aren’t any. Take a stroll down the cobblestone streets and take in one of the many beauties that Rhodes Town has to offer.

Delphi Theatre

Next up on our list of must-see tourist attractions in Greece, we have Delphi Theatre. An Amphitheatre will always be a sight to behold, and this is exactly what this is. Located on the mainland of Greece, this Delphi theatre is a registered world heritage site.

This theater has been built on the slopes of a mountain and overlooks a dramatic view. It is said that this is the very site where people came to worship Apollo and to ask him for advice.

Although the theatre is not in its prime anymore, and parts of it are crumbling away, it is still an incredible place to visit. Not to mention you can visit the museum which displays an amazing collection of finds from the theatre.

Mount Athos

Located in the northern part of Greece, the next place we have on our list is Mount Athos. Here you will find one of the most incredible buildings that are actually inhabited by monks. Mount Athos is not the mountain itself, but rather the monastery.

It is important to note that when visiting Mount Athos, you may be struck by surprise as they will only let males in, and females will be denied entrance. This is because it is a strictly controlled place of worship, and they don’t want to ruin this.

Acropolis Museum

Many people may know of the Athens Acropolis itself, but did you know that there was a museum that you could visit that is right beside the Acropolis. Athens is by far the busiest city in Greece and the most popular tourist destination. With that said, it comes with no surprise that the Athens Acropolis is one of the most visited tourist destinations.

Right by the Acropolis is the Acropolis Museum which is where you can learn an abundance about Greek history and about the Acropolis itself. While the museum itself is the epitome of modern architecture, it will show you everything you want to know about the ancient Acropolis.

Meteora Monasteries

Last but not least, we have the Meteora Monasteries. These are something that can’t be missed. These monasteries are located in the mountains and are built upon tall rock formations that look almost impossible to reach.

This makes up one of the most incredible photo moments. In the past, people would live in these monasteries, however, these days most of them are empty with only a couple that is still occupied by monks.
