Bridal Hair Blunders To Avoid

Want your hair to look amazing on your wedding day? Here are a few common mistakes that you should try to avoid at all costs when it comes to getting your hair right.

Skipping the trial

When choosing a hairstyle for your wedding day, it’s very important to try it out beforehand. You don’t want to get to your wedding day and realize that the hairstyle you’ve chosen doesn’t look right. Most stylists will recommend a trial beforehand – this allows you to test-drive a hairstyle (or even several hairstyles) to make sure that your hair is certain to look great on your wedding day. This is usually done two to three months beforehand.

Not considering a haircut beforehand

If your hair is getting longer than you like it or you’ve got split ends you’d like to get rid of, a haircut could be worth scheduling. It’s worth getting your stylist to carry this out at least 2 weeks before your wedding – this ensures that the hair is settled by the time your wedding day comes around. Never get your haircut without notifying your stylist.

Styling your hair excessively before the wedding day

Many of us are guilty of regularly using heat treatments on our hair like straightening, perming, or curling. In the weeks leading up to your wedding day, you should ideally take a break from these hair treatments, as they can damage your hair and could make styling it very difficult on the day. The same goes for using dyes and other styling hair products. Try to keep your hair as natural as possible before so that styling your hair is easy on your wedding day.

Not bringing an umbrella

There’s always a risk that it could rain on your wedding day – particularly if you’re getting married out of season. Wedding updos are popular choices because they are fairly weatherproof. However, if you get caught in heavy rain, it could still ruin your look. A simple defense against this is to always bring an umbrella to your wedding (or have someone else in the bridal party bring an umbrella). This allows you to protect your hair if it does start raining.

Choosing the wrong stylist

Achieving the perfect wedding hair involves hiring the right stylist. There are likely to be many stylists in your area and it’s worth comparing them to find the best one. Staying within budget is important, but that doesn’t mean you should hire a friend with no styling experience. Ideally, you want a professional stylist who has done bridal hairstyles for clients before. It’s worth asking people you know for recommendations, looking at stylist portfolios, and reading reviews online. You should also think about whether you plan to get your hair done at a salon or whether it would be more convenient to hire a mobile hair salon. The latter option could allow you to get ready at home so that you don’t have to waste time traveling to a salon, plus you may find that you’re able to relax more.
