1. Brush your hair straight with a round or flat brush.

Brushing your hair straight with a round or flat brush is the most traditional straightening technique. We all have a hairdryer and a brush in our bathrooms, of course! Wrap each strand of washed and towel-dried hair around the brush, dry briefly with a hairdryer, then stretch the strand by smoothing it under the blow dryer.

The flat brush is ideal for styling medium-length and long hair, while the round brush is ideal for styling women’s short haircuts. Apply a straightening cream to your hair before brushing to improve smoothing. The majority of these creams contain a thermo-protective treatment that keeps the hair from becoming dry. This type of smoothing is simple to do and lasts all day. It does not, however, help to straighten naturally curly hair. It produces light waves at best.

2. Straightening your hair using a straightening iron

Straightening your hair with a straightening iron produces more convincing results. If your hair is naturally curly or if brushing with a brush does not work, this method is recommended.
Apply a thermo-protective treatment to washed and towel-dried hair (preferably with a wide-toothed comb), then blow-dry with a hairdryer. Then, in a quick, continuous motion, slide each bit between the iron’s clamps. Devices with a special coating (ceramic, for example) gently and evenly warm the hair. It takes about two days to straighten with an iron. Iron a little after the first night to smooth out any stubborn waves. It will be much faster this time!

In addition to the thermo-protective treatment, use a hair mask once a week to avoid long-term damage to your hair.

3. Use hair straightening products.
There are shampoos, conditioners, leave-in conditioners, hairsprays, and pretty much anything else you can think of that are designed to calm and relax your hair. Experimenting with products designed for straight hair or to make styling your hair easier could be a good place to start.

Smoothing serums and spray-on conditioners with keratin can coat your hair strands, weighing them down and relaxing your curls.

4. Hair straightening kits for semi-permanent straightening
A semi-permanent straightening kit can be used to smooth your hair permanently (and to style short or long wavy, curly, frizzy, or rebellious hair). Straightening your hair consists of two steps. Apply the smoothing and softening serum based on keratin, silk proteins, and wheat to washed and towel-dried hair, then straighten it several times with a plastic comb. After twenty minutes, rinse with lukewarm water to remove the serum. Then apply the smoothing extender, the active ingredients of which fix and maintain the smoothing effect. After ten minutes, comb through the hair once or twice. The obtained results are consistent with up to ten shampoos. You can activate the smoothing effect by brushing your hair with a hair dryer.

5. Use of Keratin Treatments
Keratin treatment, also known as ‘protein treatment’ and ‘hair smoothening,’ helps make your tresses less frizzy and straighter. After a keratin solution is applied, your hair is blow-dried and straightened with a flat iron to seal in the product. It is less damaging than rebonding because it does not break the hair bonds to restructure them, but instead smooths down the cells that overlap to form hair strands, leaving them shiny and soft to the touch. Depending on the texture and thickness of your hair, a keratin treatment can last up to three months.

A keratin treatment may contain dangerous levels of formaldehyde, a known carcinogen (cancer-causing chemical). Side effects of the procedure include scalp irritation, stinging or itching eyes, a runny nose, and throat irritation. During the procedure, some women have reported coughing or chest tightness. As a result, you should seek professional advice and follow post-procedure instructions to minimize chemical and heat damage to your hair.
