Sex in the UK

Last March saw the UK enter a national lockdown. Residents of the UK got urged to stay indoors and keep away from anyone outside of their households. So, you’d think that would reduce the number of people having sex. At Hunkemöller, specialists in sexy lingerie, found in their recent survey, quite the opposite occurred. They reported that more than 9 million brits admitted to having more sex in 2020/21 than in previous years. Not only this but, one in ten couples had “more exciting sex” over the past 12 months – making it a great year all around. So, why have brits gotten more adventurous in the bedroom, and which cities aren’t quite hitting the spot?

The friskiest cities

Our capital city has taken the top spot for the UK’s friskiest city. According to Hunkemöller, 43% of London residents admitted they’ve been enjoying milf cams and a more exciting sex life across the past 12 months.

London wasn’t the only city enjoying some private time over the last year. According to the survey of over 2,000 people Southampton (28%), Newcastle (26%), Birmingham (21%), and, Belfast (19%) have all been getting frisky whilst in lockdown.

However, whilst certain parts of the UK were enjoying the past year. Some areas haven’t been demonstrating the same excitement. Unfortunately for Manchester residents, the past year has been less steamy due to less sex and less exciting sex lives for almost half (43%) of people living there.

Lucky for Manchester, they’re not the only northern city at the bottom of the friskiest cities. Other places include Leeds (31%), Liverpool (31%), Glasgow (30%), and Edinburgh (28%).

What has helped to spice up our sex lives?

According to the survey conducted by Hunkemöller, role play and sex toys were on the agenda for some people. One in ten admitted they had been more adventurous with their sexual antics over the last 12 months than they had previously.

Not only this but, as we no longer had to dress up to go to work, this only encouraged people to dress up in the bedroom. Hunkemöller reports that one in seven (15%) said they had invested in sexy underwear in recent months. Not only this, but men were twice as likely to splash out on sexy underwear sets than women.

The UK becoming friskier is a positive movement, but will it last? According to Hunkemöller, it will. From the people, they surveyed almost half (43%) pledged to continue their activities as the COVID-19 restrictions get lifted and, a further 46% say they will try their hardest to keep their actions going for as long as possible.
