Hair Tattoos

Modern world has modern solutions. With a hundred different problems, there are thousands other solutions. This is the magic of the 21st century. Similarly, hair tattoos have become one of the best solutions for bald-headed people.

What are Hair Tattoos?

Hair tattoos, often called Scalp Micro-pigmentation (SMP), is an option for treating hair loss in men. Instead of getting prescribing medications or having expensive hair transplants, today majority of people choose hair tattoos.

These tattoos are actually the pigment that is inserted into your head, and it looks like hairs. Seems cool? Yes! Many people today also get hair tattoos as a fashion or trend, and many got to make their bald heads look cool.

Scalp Micro-pigmentation (SMP):

Hair pigmentation, scalp tattoos, and hair tattoos are all terms used to describe scalp micro-pigmentation. As part of the SMP procedure, thousands of tiny pigment deposits are placed into the scalp’s upper dermis layer. The hair follicles in traditional tattoos are replaced by pointillism or a dotting technique as micro-pigmentation. Hair tattoos are semi-permanent tattoos in which you appear to have thin hairs on your head.

Procedure:

  • First, during the journey of micro-pigmentation, you and your doctor decide which hairstyle tattoo you’re going to choose.
  • After that, the patient will undergo a relatively low-key in first treatment session. It sets the stage for your future look and does not require much recovery time. The time is between 2 to 3 days.
  • After that, the practitioner adds details and darker pigments and to make the dots little more intense. As a result, your hair will appear to have been shadowed under the ink. This will create the illusion of natural hair.
  • SMP usually lasts after the two treatments. But if your scalp further needs the third one to darken the pigment, then another treatment is also given to you.
  • The pigment dots you see after your final session might look like scabbing and glaring dots. The treatment of micro-pigmentation takes time to become normal.  Do not worry, as this is normal.

During scalp micro-pigmentation, you are likely to experience some discomfort, but the procedure will not take too long. Your doctor can also give you some injections of pain relievers if you are afraid of lingering pain.

Hairline receding and thinning areas can be fixed with the final result. On a shaved head, scalp micro-pigmentation resembles natural hair.

Does it involve pain and irritation?

Having a hair tattoo is entirely different from a traditional tattoo, as our head and hairline are sensitive portions of our body. As a result, we can feel slight pain and discomfort during the procedure.

But usually, tiny and thin needles are used to insert the pigments into your head, so the pain is relatively less as it seems.

But to some areas of your head, you will feel more discomfort or pain because many areas of your head are more sensitive. But to those who do not even want to bear a little pain and discomfort, ask their practitioner. So they are given pain reliever injections.

After SMP, the scalp usually swells or gets little red. But this is the healing process, and after a time, your skin and head become normal.

How much it Costs?

The process of SMP is not extremely expensive neither too cheap.

  • The cost varies up to the following factors:
  • The type of clinic you choose
  • The doctor you consult
  • The area or city of the clinic
  • The number of treatments you take
  • Type or style of tattoo you are going to choose

You can expect to pay $1,500 to $2,000 for a basic hair tattoo at your hairline or crown area. Although the standard full procedure price varies, it usually ranges from $2,000 to $4,000.

But the best advice is to do proper research about the clinic you are choosing. You should also check the results of its previous pigmentation procedures. It is never advised to take risks in such sensitive processes.

How long does SMP last?

SMP treatment is not for a lifetime. But it usually lasts for a long. Also, it depends upon the clinic from which you have taken the treatment. SMP treatment you have taken from a good clinic and a professional doctor lasts more than 5 to 7 years. If you think that the hair dots are going to fade slightly or continuously, you can go to the touch-up. This will again make a new and fresh look of your hair tattoo.

Experts’ Advice:

The experts always advise not to choose SMP treatment for those who have extra sensitive skin of their heads. But if more necessary, then always go to a trusted and best clinic as it is not good to take a risk.

Moreover, you can also experience some issues after the SMP treatment, so be prepared for that. Always try to follow the advice of your doctor.
