MTV Unplugged is associated with a number of iconic performances since the 80s and now the new generation is about to witness it with BTS. The series showcases musicians playing acoustic versions of their tracks and aired regularly between 1989 and 1999, although less often up until 2009. Since then, MTV Unplugged specials have become more of a rarity.
But once again, people are looking forward to it again when the announcement of a BTS MTV Unplugged, with Jin, RM, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, V and Jungkook set to perform in Seoul, Korea.
So, here’s how to watch the BTS MTV Unplugged online for free if you don’t have cable or any access to MTV…
NOTE: The live performance is now over. I think there will be replays in MTV, so check their social media accounts for schedule. But some performances are now uploaded to MTV YouTube Channel though their commentary is not included and the BTS cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You” is uploaded in MTV UK YouTube Channel.
1. INSTALL A GOOD VPN IN YOUR LAPTOP OR PC
I emphasize ~good~ because there are a lot of VPNs out there but not all perform well, some can be blocked by streaming apps and websites. I am personally using BetterNet VPN because they have this called “optimal location” that makes the connection better and you can sign up for a 7-day trial. Just FYI: This is not sponsored.
2. REGISTER TO MTV FREE PASS
MTV Unplugged Presents: BTS airs on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2021 at 9 pm on MTV (February 24th at 10 AM on MTV Asia or you can check the schedule of your location here). You can access it online by signing up for MTV’s 24-hour pass. This will give you free access to MTV Live for 24 hours. So, if you sign up ahead of their performance, you can tune in on time without spending a penny.
But take note, make sure to sign up at least 3 hours before the premier. You’ll only have access for 24 hours in it.
3. SET YOUR VPN TO US LOCATION
MTV’s 24-hour pass is only available to US residents so this is where you need to use a good VPN. Turn it on before accessing the MTV Live. You can register before or after turning on your VPN, in my experience, it doesn’t really matter. The important thing is opening your VPN when you start streaming it.
