Today, we’re going to be discussing how you can make your pictures come to life. It’s important to understand what separates fashion photography from other photographic disciplines, but it’s equally important to have a good eye and an understanding of what makes a good picture. And of course, there is a need for the right accessories too, such as hipod. However, if you are aiming to capture live sports, you will need an end zone video system.

We’re going to give you 5 fashion photography tips that’ll inspire you and help you take the next step as a beginner photographer. Once you know these, you’ll be able to take your label or the labels you work for to the next level. Let’s get started.

Fashion Photography Tips to Make Your Pictures Pop

Before we give you these tips, you need to know the difference between fashion photography and apparel photography.

Apparel photography is focused primarily on the product; the pictures are consistent and any distractions from the clothing are limited. Professional fashion photography, on the other hand, has a lot more depth. To boost the brand, you’re focused on the entire picture (model, location, props)

Now, let’s learn how to take great fashion photos.

1. Photoshoot Space

Before you start it is important to rent a photoshoot space that will make your work easier as they provide unbeatable customer service. Photoshoot spaces are specialized areas that are specifically designed or set up for the purpose of taking photographs. They may be rented from a studio, or they may be a dedicated space within a larger building such as a hotel, an art gallery, or a restaurant. Photoshoot spaces typically include a backdrop, lighting, and props to create the desired atmosphere for the shoot. Some spaces may also have additional features such as a makeup and dressing area or a staging area for the photographer and client.

2. Highlight the Outfit

Here’s where fashion photography and apparel photography meet. You must highlight the outfit in a subtle way, using the model and the rest of the environment to draw attention to it. Fashion editorial photography is a form of visual storytelling that showcases clothing and accessories in a way that inspires and captivates the viewer.

Don’t let the subject block any view of the outfit and use color in the photograph to let the colors in the outfit stand out.

3. Interacting With the Environment

Have your model interact with the surrounding environment. This’ll make the photo feel more natural and it’ll probably make your model more comfortable too.

If you’re doing an outdoor shoot, have them move around a lot, touch the objects around them, and let the atmosphere affect them.  With indoor shoots, you can utilize props and white photography backdrops to give the picture a better vibe.

4. Rule of Thirds

Composition rules don’t go out the window in fashion photography. Divide your field of view into 9 equally sized squares and position your subject at any of the intersecting lines; this is called the “rule of thirds“.

This is a good starting point if you’re not sure where to place the model. As you get more practice, your compositional ability will become innate and you won’t have to think about the “rule” aspect of it.

5. Counterbalance

Sometimes a photo will feel empty, even with a busy environment as the background. Achieving balance and symmetry in a photo can help you over this hump.

If you’re peering through the lens and your subject looks great, but the picture doesn’t consider adding another main element to the photo to create a counterbalance. It could be a prominent prop or even another model, you just need something to center the photo.

6. The Narrative Quality

Something a lot of beginner photographers tend to overlook is the narrative of a series of photographs. Whether magazine readers realize it or not, many successful photoshoots will tell a story over four or five pictures.

Come up with a narrative before you start the photo session. This will enhance the emotive quality of the pictures and create more mystique around the brand that the photos are for.

Relax and Let Your Artistry Take Hold

Good photographers always seem relaxed because they’ve put in the time to get comfortable with their equipment and create a world within their pictures. Use these fashion photography tips to get started, but allow your style and creativity to come out in your photos. That’s how they’ll truly become great. Did you find this article helpful?
