Things You Should Know About Waxing

Everyone wants to feel confident. One of the most important parts of confidence is liking the way we look. We have all heard the term “beauty is pain” and sometimes that can be the truth. Constantly shaving your legs, arms and other parts of your body can be a painful process. Red bumps, cuts, and irritated skin are all common outcomes when shaving.

Instead, women should consider waxing. Not only does it last longer, but it also leaves skin smoother than shaving ever could. Whether you are a curvy mature woman or a slim young woman, waxing can provide a boost of confidence and help you feel and look your best. With that in mind, this article is going to look at a few things you should know about waxing before getting it done.

Don’t Shave Before a Wax

When going for a wax, the last thing you want to do is shave beforehand. Sure, you might be uncomfortable with someone seeing all of your body hair, but don’t worry, they’re used to it. Shaving (or even trimming) before a waxing appointment defeats the whole purpose. In order for the wax to pull the hair out, it needs to be long enough. This is among one of the many things that waxing courses will teach you.

It is generally a good idea to let your hair grow for a few weeks (around 2 or 3) before buying a waxing kit. This will provide enough length on the hair for the specialist to wax. Now if you are uncomfortable with leaving your hair that long before the wax, consider wearing pants and/or long sleeves if the weather permits it.

Exfoliate Before a Wax

This is very important and is something many people don’t do. Exfoliating before a wax is a must in many experts’ eyes. The reason for this is that it helps to prep your skin for the wax by removing dead skin cells and preventing ingrown hairs. Of course, after the wax, your skin will be sensitive so refrain from exfoliating for a few days afterward.

In addition to exfoliating before a wax, it is a good practice to always exfoliate. Exfoliation has several different benefits and is an important part of any beauty routine. Of course, do it gently and with a suitable product, or even create your own!

It Will Hurt, But Don’t Work Yourself Up

There is no getting around it, waxing will hurt. You are essentially ripping the hair out of your skin at once. While the pain is incredibly temporary, there is no point in pretending it doesn’t exist. In fact, there is a good chance it will hurt less than you are expecting it to.

If you are really worried about the pain, taking ibuprofen beforehand should help ease the pain a little. Also, be sure to go into it blind. No need to hype yourself up by watching waxing videos or searching online about how much it hurts. Working yourself up about it will only make it worse.

Wear Loose Clothing

Once the waxing is done, your body will likely be a little sore and irritated. And one of the worst things you can do to your skin in that state is compress it with tight clothing. So, it is recommended that you wear loose clothing to and from your waxing appointment.

Not only could this sting, but could also cause a rash or make it tough for the skin to breathe. A nice loose sweater and some joggers or sweats is generally a good call. It is all about being comfortable, and the person doing your waxing won’t care if you don’t look your best.

Hopefully, this article has been able to get you a little more comfortable about the idea o waxing and how to prepare/what to expect.
