How to Keep Your Legs Silky Smooth During the Winter

There’s a lot to look forward to in the wintertime – holidays, vacation, snow days, and more. But, there’s always one thing every woman dreads come wintertime – dry skin.

No matter how moisturized your skin is the rest of the year, it seems like winter always has its way of bringing in the dryness. Luckily, there are many remedies that can help keep your skin moisturized and smooth all winter long.

Many people, however, only focus on moisturizing their face. But, the rest of your body needs moisture too. Your legs, in particular, can get extremely dry during the winter months.

What can you do to combat this?

Read on to learn how to keep your legs silky smooth during the winter.

Avoid the Heat

It feels so nice to get in from the cold and hop into a hot shower or bath. But, during the winter months, hot showers, baths, and saunas are not good for your skin.

In fact, the heat actually takes moisture out of your skin.

If you want silky smooth legs, try to limit the number of hot showers and baths you take. Instead, stick to moderate temperature water as much as you can.

If, however, you simply cannot resist your warm soaks in the tub, add some essential oils to your bath to keep your skin from dehydrating. Some of the best moisturizing essential oils are jasmine, geranium, rosemary, peppermint, and lemon.

Avoid Tanning

Due to pale skin, many people hit the tanning salons during the winter months to get some color. But, not only are tanning beds bad because they can cause cancer and wrinkles but they’re also extremely drying for the skin. If you really don’t like the pale color of your legs, opt for a tinted moisturizer. Or, just wear some women’s tights.

Exfoliate

We all know it’s super important to exfoliate our faces a couple times a week.

It’s also super important to exfoliate your legs to slough away dead skin cells. There are all kinds of different body scrubs you can buy at the store, or, you can make your own.

Making your own body scrub is super simple, and it can save you a lot of money. Here are two really easy body scrub recipes:

  1. Grind up half a cup of pine nuts in a blender and mix it with two tablespoons of light oil. Then, rub this on your legs in a circular motion and rinse off.
  1. Mix in a few tablespoons of brown sugar and coffee grounds with coconut oil until you get a nice, thick but spreadable consistency. Rub on your legs as you would with the pine nut scrub and rinse off.

These are just a couple of the different homemade scrubs you can make, but there are many more out there!

Avoid Alcohol

We’ve all woken up after a night of drinking, looked in the mirror, and felt completely horrified by the way our skin looked.

This is because alcohol is super drying on the skin! But, many people think that drinking alcohol is the only thing you need to be careful about. However, the truth is that a lot of skincare products contain alcohol as well.

When shopping for body lotion, shave gel, body washes, and other leg products at the store, be sure to check if one of the ingredients is alcohol before purchasing.

As you can see, there’s a lot you can do to help keep your legs silky smooth all winter long. If you have questions about these tips, comment below.
