Whenever a so-called “skincare expert” says a sheet mask is useless, I laugh and cringe at the same time. Admittedly there are a lot of gimmicky sheet masks in the beauty market right now, but I will assure you and many people in Reddit Asian Beauty that not all are just simply just for moisturizing. In my case, I use sheet mask as a beauty first aid. I use one when I know my skin is about to break out or I need an instant boost on my skin. I like to use sheet masks with mild yet effective ingredients, and I also tried one made of clay. What I haven’t tried before are those with actives and acids since they can be harsh to the skin. Yet that didn’t stop Innisfree from making a range of sheet masks infuse with those ingredients. Of course, I needed to try at least one that will suit my skin, but did it work or did it irritate my skin due to the harsh ingredient? Scroll down to read my Innisfree Skin Clinic Mask Sheet BHA review.
WHAT IS IT?
Innisfree Skin Clinic Mask Sheet BHA is a fine cotton mask with BHA to refine and smoothen skin. It helps remove dead cells; rids pores of dirt and impurities that may cause breakouts; intensely hydrates, nourishes, and softens; helps transform texture for a silky, supple, and sleek look; made from 100% natural soft cotton hairs around the cotton wool; closely adheres to skin to better deliver its active ingredients.
Obviously, the notable ingredient in this sheet mask is the BHA. I discussed BHA in this blog many times, especially when I wrote about how I got rid of my acne earlier this year. But for the first time readers, BHA is Beta Hydroxy Acid, which usually refers to the ingredient salicylic acid. A beta hydroxy acid (BHA) product with salicylic acid exfoliates skin and soothes. It is a multi-benefit ingredient used to improve acne and blackheads. Its primary benefit is as an exfoliant, helping shed dead skin in a way similar to how skin acts when we are younger. Because it has the ability to penetrate into the pore lining and exfoliate inside the pore as well as on the surface of the skin, it is especially effective for reducing breakouts, including blackheads and whiteheads. APPLICATION: After cleansing, use a toner to refine skin texture. Preferably, something that will balance your skin’s pH level like the Klairs Supple Preparation Toner because actives work better when the skin has low pH. And then take out the mask from the package and remove the film. Evenly adhere it to entire face, avoiding eye and lip area. Remove the sheet after 10~20 minutes and gently pat to allow the remaining formula to absorb into the skin.
SCENT: It smells a little like tea tree, not overwhelming, just fine.
PACKAGING: Unlike most sheet masks, this one comes with a film so it was easier for me to unfold the sheet mask. The mask is just the average size, not too big and not too small for my face and the thickness is average.
RESULT: The Innisfree Skin Clinic Mask Sheet BHA feels soothing. I was afraid my skin might get irritated because even for toner making I never use products with BHA that long. but it didn’t. Instead, it vanished the redness on my skin, it made it look brighter, plumper, and looks smoother. Best of all, the rough patches I had were gone and some of my pimples shrunk! This is a great sheet mask for those with oily and acne-prone skin. But if you have sensitive skin, you might need to use this around 10 minutes or less because salicylic acid might irritate your skin.
PROS: It is soothing, effectively reduce redness, moisturizing, a little hydrating, and it will leave your skin look smoother and plumper. And most importantly, it could flatten and shrink some pimples.
CONS: This is a sheet mask best for oily and acne-prone skin. Those with sensitive skin should use wary of using this.
