Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner Review

Benton, specifically their High Content Snail Bee Essence, is the first-ever Korean beauty product I ever used which practically kickstarted my obsession with K-beauty because it was so effective. Because of that product, I was inspired to try more beauty products created by Asian brands. But since 2016, I haven’t tried any other products from them, but I’ve been wanting to try and write a Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner review. Finally, I’m doing it now!

WHAT IS IT?

Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner claims to hydrate and prep your skin to help with the absorption of skin care products in the next step in your routine. Made with superstar ingredients such as aloe water, snail secretion filtrate, and 0.5% salicylic acid. The Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner moisturizes and helps calm irritated skin. The BHA works to exfoliate and reduce sebum, which is great for acne skin; while snail mucin replenishes moisture and promotes natural cell regeneration. Suitable for all skin types.

Beta Hydroxy Acid or BHA for short, also known as salicylic acid, is completely non-abrasive, and has soothing and calming properties—so this leave-on exfoliating ingredient is gentler on your skin than virtually any scrub or cleansing brush could be. It works on the uppermost layers of the skin’s surface, loosening the bonds between dead surface layers and the radiant skin beneath them. But BHA also works inside the pore. Like AHA, the BHA is also hydrating, diminishing the look of lines and wrinkles, improving skin’s firmness, texture, and tone, but its multitasking, standout properties make it ideal for those with normal to oily, bumpy or congested skin that may be showing signs of aging. They’re even suitable for skin prone to milia.

PERFORMANCE

APPLICATION: After cleansing, pour a small amount of toner onto hands and apply to face using a patting motion. Alternatively, use a cotton pad for application. Personally, I prefer using my hands only so no product is wasted, all are absorbed by my skin.

SCENT: It has a mild scent of aloe vera, but it’s so mild it’s almost unscented.

PACKAGING: Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner used to be packaged in a spray bottle, but since 2016 they are now sold in a sturdy pump plastic bottle which I find more convenient than the spray because it’s easier to dispense in your hands or cotton pad.

TEXTURE: It’s runny like water but it has a thick texture, almost like a gel but it absorbs well and fast into the skin even those with oily skin. That is why I prefer to apply this using my hands instead of cotton pads.

RESULT: In the west, toners are mostly like astringent. It either contains alcohol or it’s more like a second cleanser. But in Asia, toners are essential because they are used as moisturizing or hydrating or both.

I started using this Benton Aloe BHA Skin Toner last December 2017 after I had an anti-acne facial a week before Christmas. On that facial, I did not only had my pimples removed but also the whiteheads and blackheads especially on my nose where it is prone. On February 2018, just three days before my birthday, I had an anti-acne facial again and my facialist declared that I don’t have blackheads anymore and I only had a few pimples. She also said that most marks I see on my face are just scars left by my acne.

When she was saying it all to me, I was just replying, “really?!” but deep inside my head, I was like “oh sh**! The toner really works!” It’s the only exfoliator I have been religiously using for the past three months. Although it did not work on making my skin tone and texture even, I’m very satisfied with this product because of its sebum-control and makes my skin hydrated, moisturized, supple and plump. Most importantly, it controls my acne and reduced my blackheads. I cannot vouch for its anti-wrinkle claims yet because I don’t have those yet.

VERDICT

PROS: It effectively reduced my blackheads, has sebum-control, prevented my pimples and improved my skin tone. It’s also hydrating, moisturizing, and made my skin plump and supple. It’s alcohol-free as well. It also claims to diminish lines and wrinkles but I couldn’t vouch for it yet.

CONS: For almost three months of using the toner, it still hasn’t improved my skin texture, or I’m not using it that long.
