Hype or Not: Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off Review

When I started to get interested in Korean beauty around two years ago, this product was one of the first products I wanted to try so bad! It was often mentioned in Asian Beauty forums and it was featured as well in “Get It Beauty” a Korean beauty show where South Korean celebrities shares their beauty secrets. So I was so thrilled when I received a full-sized jar for FREE from Althea Korea because my orders reached a certain amount to be eligible to receive this for free. So now that I got it, was it worth all the hype? Keep reading my Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off review to know more.

WHAT IS IT?

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off is an exfoliating skin-softening mask that will remove dead skin cells and create a soft, radiant complexion with Brazilian black sugar and helps decrease the number of black and whiteheads. It claims to:

  • Washes off every speck of dirt and makeup while leaving skin super soft and moisturized
  • Effectively soften and remove blackheads, deep sealed dirt, and oil from the pore
  • Makes skin feel luxuriously soft and look radiant.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Sucrose, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glycerin, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Lanolin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Butyrospermum Parkll (Shea Butter), Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Laurate, BHT, Butylparaben, Fragrance, Caramel.

PERFORMANCE

APPLICATION: After washing, apply the desired amount onto the face (avoid eye & mouth areas). Mix with water or toner to reduce skin irritation and massage. For even better results, mix a teaspoon of this mask with a cleansing oil. And then wait 10-15 minutes, then wash off with warm water.

SCENT: It smells more like lemon than sugar.

PACKAGING: It is simply packaged in a plastic jar with brown labels. But earlier this 2017, they changed their labels with bigger fonts and designs, but it’s still in the same plastic jar. You could see it here.

FORMULA: Have you ever mixed sugar into honey? That’s the texture of this product.

RESULTS: I find this product too abrasive. So if you have an acne or sensitive skin, I don’t recommend using this facial scrub, even if you dilute it with water or cleansing oil. I stopped using this because it irritates my skin more than exfoliating it. I was about to toss this product to a friend or relative who wants this when I remember a segment in “Get It Beauty” show where a female idol shared that she uses this Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off on her body, specifically on her elbows and knees to exfoliate. So I tried it and yes, it works well, making my elbows and knees look brighter and exfoliated without any irritation. I now keep this in my bathroom for my weekly body exfoliation when it’s too cold to use Human Nature Volcanic Cooling Body Scrub.

VERDICT

PROS: It does smoothen and brighten without irritation for those with normal skin type.

CONS: Too abrasive for a sensitive and acne-prone skin. If you have this and have the same skin types, I highly suggest using this on your body instead.
