Hype or Not: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask Review

I dreaded using moisturizers. I have combination skin but the oily parts are dominant, so using moisturizers makes my skin sticky and more oily. It’s annoying! Despite that, I still have to use a moisturizer. Yes, even if you have oily skin you still have to use it because moisturizer helps prevent wrinkles and generally makes skin look good especially when you’re already in your 20’s. So when I’ve heard so many positive reviews about Laneige’s sleeping pack that moisturizes but isn’t sticky, I knew I have to try it. Did it live up to my expectations? Keep reading my Laneige Water Sleeping Mask review to know if it’s really worth the hype.

Finding this product wasn’t easy. Despite a lot of people outside of South Korea –like the US, Singapore, and Malaysia– already got their hands on the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, there are still some countries who don’t have a Laneige store. So at the bottom of this post, I linked all the stores where you could buy this. But first, the review.

What is it?

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is a gel-type product that provides intensive hydration, vitality, and brightening effects. It claims to restore your skin and its moisture as you sleep. Giving your skin a well-rested, moisturized, and lively look like you had an 8-hour sleep… even if you didn’t.

It’s perfect for all skin types. So if you have oily or combination skin, this product is for you. It contains Beta Glucan for skin regeneration, Ceramide SLN for moisture loss protection, Hubza Apricot Extract for skin purification, and Chestnut Extract for improving skin texture.

This is different from the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask which has a balm texture that makes your lips get smooth and exfoliated overnight.

PERFORMANCE

APPLICATION: After your night skincare routine, take adequate amount of mask using the spatula (or not, because I lost mine and I’m okay). Gently apply on the face in the direction of skin texture, starting from inside of the face and working outward in an upward movement. And of course, don’t forget your neck. Then leave it overnight, and wash your face the next morning.

laneige water sleeping mask review packaging
*This is the common packaging, but Laneige often releases limited edition like those shown above.

PACKAGING: It is sold in a 70mL glass jar so it’s heavy while the cap is a hard plastic. But don’t worry if you dropped this, it doesn’t break easily. It also comes with a spatula, all packaged in a box with minimalist design.

SMELL: It has a very mild soothing smell, kinda reminds me of chamomile so it’s perfect for sleeping because the scent is soothing.

TEXTURE: As mentioned above, this is a light gel-type overnight moisturizer. It’s not too thick, but not too light. Despite it is labeled as a “water sleeping mask” it’s not watery at all, nor droopy while applying it.

MY EXPERIENCE

Upon applying, as mentioned, it’s not watery nor droopy. It’s not sticky at all since it is a gel which is the best type for those with oily skin. It’s light and absorbs fast into your skin so sleeping with it is comfortable. It is also a bit cold so you could feel your skin relaxing. This is also great when you have an all-nighter or had one too many drinks on a girls night out, Laneige Water Sleeping Mask will hydrate your skin so you’ll look healthy and had enough sleep.

I’ve been using this for almost a year now, I only stopped when I had chickenpox, but I continued using it again after I was done with my medication. Whenever I wake up with Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, without any bullsh***, my skin looks healthier and brighter. It’s moisturized without stickiness or extra oiliness. I sleep around 2-3 AM so this really helps my skin look like I had enough sleep. But if you already have skin problems like acne before using this product, don’t expect that it will heal it. This is just for moisture, makes your skin less dull, and keeps it healthy. But it will not worsen your acne.

Will I buy it again?

Yes! There is a reason this is the best-selling Laneige product. It really moisturizes your skin, makes it look healthy, and perfect for any skin type especially for those with oily skin like me who dread using moisturizers. It’s really worth all the hype.

FAQ

Q: Do I really need to apply this at night?

A: I haven’t tried using this in the daytime, but I highly recommend that you follow the instruction and use it at night because nighttime skin transmission (permeability) is higher than in the daytime. So it means, applying products like the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask works best at night before sleep than daytime. It maximizes the efficiency of the product.

Q: How many times do I need to apply this sleeping mask per week?

A: The basic premise behind Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is to give your skin an added hydration boost and to fortify the skin’s natural moisture barrier. Unlike a daily moisturizer, this Laneige cream is designed to be used only once or twice per week, in addition to your regular routine.
