Two years ago when I heard about Snapchat app my first reaction was “oh great! A safer way for teens to send nude photos” obviously I was being sarcastic but I bet most of you thought of that too! Eventually, I decided the app was not for me. Then I heard that Facebook offered to acquire Snapchat for US$3 billion but the founder declined. And later Google offered US$4 billion and he declined again. You must be thinking the guy is nuts for declining such huge offers from the world’s top companies, ’cause I did. But I think he knows he’s on the right track. The people who uses the app keeps on increasing and they’re all saying great stuff about it. Honestly, I got more curious.
According to Mary Meeker’s 2015 Internet Report, Snapchat now has 100 million daily active users, and the app generates 2 billion video views a day. One event like Coachella can draw 40 million video views to Snapchat Live Stories. Snapchat is all about vertical ads and says users watch them until the end nine times more frequently than they watch horizontal ads in its app.
For those of you who’s not aware of Mary Meeker, her annual internet trend reports is the most-watched digital reports. Meeker runs digital investments for top Silicon Valley venture capital firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers and every year she releases a comprehensive breakdown of the entire Web landscape. So if you’re an entrepreneur getting into an internet venture or a blogger like me, her reports are a must-read for us.
So around the first week of June 2015, I FINALLY download the Snapchat app. I was so clueless at first but I later get the hang of it especially when I watched some of my friends, fave bloggers and my favorite people from Instagram short videos and photos. I must say, I understand the craze now. I’m actually more active in Snapchat now than on my Instgram and Facebook. But I’m still annoyingly talkative in Twitter. So far I’m loving it and I find it great app that will help me more on my blog. You can follow me there, my username is itsmariaalyssa.
