24 Hacks to Make Your Hair Incredibly Easy

There is a reason why I had a major haircut, I’m lazy and doing my hair is just hard for me. These list of hacks to make your hair maybe a little too late for me since I’m planning on sticking to my pixie haircut for a while but I’m sure this will be helpful to all women with long hair, it’s incredibly easy! Need thicker or longer hair? You can try 3rd Dimension Hair Replacement before ding some of these tricks.

1. Make sure your style stays put by flipping the bobby pin over so the wavy side is against your head.

1 hacks to make your hair

If you have a hard time keeping your hair in place, try flipping the bobby pin over. The straight side is slicker and won’t grip as well as the wavy side.

2. If you have straight hair, roll your hair into a coil, wrap it in foil, and press it with a flat iron for curls that will last longer.

2 hair hacks

The foil is a heat conductor and helps keep the curl coiled as it cools, resulting in natural-looking curls that last all day long. To do this, you need the best flat iron hair straightener as well.

3. Use the locking technique to ensure that your hair stays in place all day

Using a larger bobby pin or hairpin, aim the open end of the pin against the direction your hair is pulled. Rotate the pin so the open end faces the same direction as your hair, and push the pin in toward your head to secure it. If inserted correctly, the pin will pull your hair tighter and be unnoticeable. Repeat these steps until your style is completely secure. (Tip via Matrix artistic director Ammon Carver.)

4. Secure the end of a braid with a hidden bobby pin to make your hairstyle look more chic.

4 hair hacks

Tie the ends of your braid into a knot, then slide a bobby pin upward into the knot to secure it. (Tutorial for the fishtail braid pictured is here.) Voilà! A braid with no unsightly hair ties.

5. Create an easy, cool updo in seconds with just bobby pins.

Tease the crown of your head with a teasing comb, then grab a section of hair between your hairline and the crown of your head, and secure it with bobby pins. Then, grab a tiny section of hair from the front right side of your head, wrap it behind your head, and secure it with a bobby pin. Repeat on the left side, and continue these steps until you’ve pulled back three to four sections on each side, alternating the placement of the pins every time. Voila! An easy half-up updo.

6. Use your headband to give yourself an unexpected updo.

To copy this cool-girl look, roll your hair over an elastic headband before pulling it over your head to create a rolled tunnel bun effect.

7. Use a Goody Spin Pin instead of several bobby pins to secure your style.

8 hair hacks

Goody Spin Pins do the job of 20 regular bobby pins. Twist them into the center of your style to secure it, and go!

8. Cover the elastic of your ponytail with a section of hair pinned around the base.

9 hair hacks

After you’ve tied your ponytail, grab a section about the width of your pinky from the pony and wrap it around the base. Tuck in any loose ends and secure it by inserting a bobby pin.

9. Dust an eyeshadow (in the same color family as your hair) along your part to shade your scalp slightly, making your hair appear thicker.

10 hair hacks

Not only will this trick work IRL, but in pictures your hair will appear super-thick. You can also use this hack along your hairline if you wear it in a ponytail a lot or simply don’t like to part your hair to get the same results.

10. Make your own salt spray with seltzer water and a teaspoon of sea salt.

11 hair hacks

You might have a salt spray that you love, but if you don’t or you want to create some texture in a pinch, mix together 20 ounces of seltzer water and a teaspoon of sea salt in a spray bottle to make your own ocean spritz at home. (Tip via celebrity stylist Ryan Trygstad.)

11. Put your hair into a ponytail before creating a fishtail braid to keep it tight as you braid.

12 hair hacks

Before you begin fishtail-braiding your mane, put your hair into a side pony and secure it with an elastic band to keep the hair tight as you braid. Then, when you reach the ends of your hair, cut the hair tie to reveal a perfectly tight and gorgeous plait.

12. Pull your braid apart to make it fuller.

13 hair hack

An easy way to make it look like you have thicker and fuller hair is to gently pull the pieces outward, widening the plait. Just don’t pull it out too far or you might pull it apart.

13. Texturize milkmaid braids with a teasing brush or toothbrush.

14 hair hack

French maid braids look best when they’re roughed up a little to achieve that lived-in look. To get that effect instantly, take a teasing brush or a toothbrush, and texturize the braids by brushing them against the way they’ve been braided.

14. Prop up your ponytail with bobby pins.

Left: Before; Right: After

Once you’ve put your hair in a ponytail, insert two or three bobby pins halfway inside the elastic toward the crown of your head. Then, fluff your ponytail and flip it over for a fuller look that won’t sag or droop.

15. Blot away excess oil with a toilet seat cover.

16 hair hacks

Just like you’d use a blotting paper to remove excess oil on your skin, you can do the same for your hair. But, if you’re in a pinch and don’t have any blotting papers handy, grab a clean toilet seat cover from the restroom and blot your hair instead. They’re made out of similar material as blotting papers, which means they can help sop up excess oil just as well.

16. Create the look of a longer ponytail by creating two ponytails on top of each other.

17 hair hacks

This hack is especially good for girls with medium-length hair who are trying to grow it out longer. Simply pull your hair up into two ponytails: the first at the crown of your head and the second at the nape of your neck. Your ponytail will look twice as long in seconds!

17. Increase fullness and volume by stacking your hair on top of your head after you’ve curled it, coating the bottom of your hair with hairspray, then letting it down after your curls have cooled.

Boom: Bardot-status hair.

18. Braid your hair, then heat it up by pressing a flat iron over it to make imperfect waves.

If you want that Kate Moss kind of texture, this is the hack for you.

19. Alternate the way you flat iron your hair to make it wavy.

20 hair hacks

Holding your hair horizontally from your head, turn your wrist up and then down as you move down a section of hair, creating not-quite-curled cool-girl texture.

20. Apply mascara on your roots to conceal regrowth or grays.

21 hair hacks

If you’re in between visits to the salon, and need to cover up some stray grays or root regrowth, use a mascara in the same shade as your strands. Just make sure you wipe some of the product off so it doesn’t apply a ton of formula onto your scalp and hair.

21. Pull a section of your hair into a baby ponytail to get that side-swept look.

22 hair hacks

To make a side-sweep over your left shoulder, look to the right and pull your hair over to the left, securing the hair at the nape of your neck into a ponytail behind your left ear. Hide your ponytail with the rest of your hair, then look forward, which will pull the hair on the right side of your head that much tighter.

22. Got bangs? If you hate when they fall in your face when you workout, braid them along your hairline and bobby pin them in place.

23 hair hacks

By using this trick, not only will you be glad your bangs aren’t stuck to your forehead mid-eliptical, you’ll also decrease the chances of any hair product you have in your fringe causing you to break out on your forehead as you sweat.

23. Make your bun stay up without a hair tie by tucking your chignon into a sliver of your own hair.

24 hair hacks

Yes, this really works. Pull your hair up as if you’re going to put it into a ponytail. Then, twist your hair until it coils around itself, then tug out a piece of hair from the side of your head. Pull the sliver of hair over and around the bun to keep it in place.

24. Pull on your curls while they’re still hot to create boho waves.

25 hair hacks

When your hair is heated, that’s when you can change the curl pattern. As you unwrap each section of hair from being wound around the barrel of a curling iron, pull on the curl gently to make it less curly and look more bohemian for relaxed waves.
