Gossip Girl, what? Just kidding! But seriously, move over Serena van der Woodsen and also you Blair Waldorf, because there’s a new it girl on TV! I said it before but I’m going to say it again: The Carrie Diaries will set the new fashion trends!
For those of you people who still
crying have hungover on Gossip Girl, it’s time to move on! This January, you’ll surely love the new CW TV Series. The Carrie Diaries is about the the young Carrie Bradshaw of the hit and iconic show “Sex & The City” in high school during the 80′s aka her pre-Manolo Blahnik days.
Before the pilot episode on January 14 (January 21 in the Philippines on ETC Channel) below are some of the outfits of the young Carrie Bradshaw that will inspire you for your new 2013 outfits, very color and full of of prints. Everything you expect on the 80’s fashion style and MORE!
Like, who would thought UGG Boots will be a good pair with a polka-dot-bubble-skirt dress? Well, by looking at young Carrie’s right hand she obviously paired it with black heels. Don’t know how she ended up with UGG boots (must watch the show to find out) but it looks very chic even with her date’s (probably her date) grey blazer. Will girl’s start wearing Boyfriend Blazer?
Denim jackets are back since last year, but this year I think it’ll be colored denim jackets. And it looks like evening dress for daytime will be the next streetstyle trend. (Remember Anna Dello Russo’s Fashion Shower tips?) Just pair the your evening dress with a vibrant jacket and the chicest shoes you have and your all set! Hopefully The Sartorialist will be around.
Bored on your dull office wear? Then opt for a wool peplum skirt (for more office vibe), bright blouse under your very business-women-blazer and make it more fun and interesting with colorful bracelets, necklace and scarf just like young Carrie Bradshaw below. This probably her outfit for her huge internship in a law firm in Manhattan (spoiler!).
I’m not sure if color blocking will still be around despite it’ll be one of the show’s outfit style because people are practically sick of it already but I do hope you didn’t joined the hype, jumped in the bandwagon on dissing Hedi Slimane’s RTW debut collection in Saint Laurent Paris last year because YOU’RE SURELY GOING TO EAT YOUR WORDS. Unlike to what some bitter so-called fashion journalists and critics poor review of the collection, those flappy “Hedi Hats” and bow knot blouses will be trendy this year! The trend actually already started with Kate Moss wearing Saint Laurent Paris on her book launching and Gwen Stefani on her Vogue December cover last year and this year, teenage Carrie Bradshaw will lead the trend!
Those shorts which Teenage Carrie wore twice with a bow tie blouse are not too high but not too low which is perfect for both school and office or if you just feel like going out. In the Philippines we call it “Purontong” but in USA I think they call it “Golf Shorts” whatever you call it in your country those shorts have a style that transcend from formal to casual, depends on how you style it so it is easy to pair with anything on your closet, no doubt it will be a trend this year.
Another thing I said before, and several times actually, animal prints will never go away! Whatever the trend are -bow tie blouses, button up blouses- and whatever era it is/ was… Animal Prints are always present.
And last but definitely not the least, the Manolo Blahnik Pigalle shoes. Of course, teenagers cannot afford it yet (unless they’re parents are rich). I’m guessing Carrie Bradshaw started with much affordable but equally stylish heels in her teenage but we have to watch the show to find it out.
